THE
WINE ROADS OF PELOPONNESE
“Wine brings to light the hidden secrets of
the soul, gives being to our hopes, bids the coward flight, drives dull care
away, and teaches new means for the accomplishment of our wishes."
Horace (65–8 BC),
Roman poet
Wine, a product of a long-aged
history that is lost in the sphere of myth, deified by many ancient cultures
and perfectly connected with the Greek history and daily life.
According to the Greek mythology
there are many stories about the origin of the wine, mainly related to the god Dionysus. The most prevailing version narrates that the Titans sliced the younger immortal son of Zeus and Persephone, Dionysus and threw the pieces into a cauldron and boiled them. Then the pieces of Dionysus were buried in the earth and thus the wine was originated.
